This was the first David Lynch feature I ever saw. I tracked it down on VHS sometime after the fateful Season 2 finale of "Twin Peaks" -- needing, craving more of that weird wonderful world he had brought to life.
For those reasons, and a lot more, "Wild at Heart" will always be a sentimental favorite. I find this to be among the most optimistic of Lynch's work ("Twin Peaks" being the most?). It's the most classic "comedy" in the Lynch oeuvre, ending with the spiritual marriage of Lulu and Sailor.
And what can you say about this movie? The performances are among my favorite for every actor in the piece. Laura Dern has never been hotter. Diane Ladd has never been nuttier. Nick Cage has never been Nick Cagier (except for possibly "Face/Off") and Willem Dafoe is absolutely gross and terrifying and amazing as always.
Sheryl Lee will always be MY Glinda. Lulu and Sailor forever!
(Make the effort to find this one. It's not available digitally period. Needing to see this movie again started me down the physical media rabbit hole. The idea that this film is lost to 95% of the film watching public is a tragedy. OWN YOUR MEDIA!)
