A luxurious film. Luxurious in the time it spends with its beautiful women. Luxurious in the ideas of friendship, romance, age, relevance, art and desire it explores at great length (3.5+ hours worth in Va Savoir+). Like a great 19th century novel, Va Savoir takes time letting you get to truly know the emotional and interior lives of these artists, scholars, philosophers, and thieves.
There are quests, and love affairs and small triumphs after major disappointments. But in the end, it really is just one of the great hangout movies of all time. You can see this film's particular influence on the cinema of Ryusuke Hamaguchi, who similarly allows his films to luxuriate within its world.
A beautiful and brilliant masterpiece. Will revisit! C'est la vie!
