Got to see this at FLC on 35mm with M. Night conducting an extensive Q&A after the screening. He could not have been more engaging and down to earth and forthcoming about his filmmaking process and philosophy.
The restraint in this film — that builds its tension until David Dunn’s heroic nature can no longer be repressed - makes it the most humanist superhero story.
On its 25th anniversary - this film has lost none of its power or atmosphere. A masterpiece that elevates genre cinema.
He just missed / presaged the superhero explosion. If he had made this film 7 years later, they would’ve had him making nothing but sequels.
