
Truly must be seen in its remastered glory to be believed. Ptushko’s fantasia of witches, smiths, princesses and the strangely ineffective hero, who repeatedly (!) fails is fascinating cinema.
These incredible sets, glorious CinemaScope vibrant film stock and strange ethereal music put this safely within dream logic and visuals.
Did this inspire “Frozen”? Or are these tales so embedded in our collective subconscious that they must re-emerge over and over in slightly different form but nearly always the same substance.
