Practical effects!!!
Boy does this hold up. Midway through the film, my son turned to me and said "this is a reallllly good movie". And it is. Honestly it's way better than it needs to be. From "The Third Man" inspired shadows in the sewers to the incredible (and all in the frame) action sequences -- you actually believe in this heightened world.
Superhero cinema before the current era, was not afraid to get really weird -- even if / especially if it was for kids. I would rather watch obvious and ingenious puppetry that builds on comic book AND Ninja movie tropes than CGI slop.
Cowabunga forever!
Keep the amazing repertory screenings coming Fathom. We saw this in a packed theater, with tons of kids enjoying a 35 year old film. Great work.
