Superman means a lot to me. Despite its imperfections, Superman understands why Superman means a lot to everyone.
If you’re a fan of 1980s DC Comics - this movie is especially for you. It nails the John Byrne “Man of Steel”/ J.M. DeMatteis’s Justice League International vibes to a fault. This is the comics brought to life, in a four color style reminiscent of Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man films.
At its worst, it suffers from the by now standard MCU/Superhero movie glossy CGI/Easter Eggs over Character/3rd act problems.
At its best, it captures the same optimism as James Earl Jones climactic speech in “Field of Dreams”.
“America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers, built up and erased again — but Superman — like baseball has marked the time.
Kal-El is a part of our past, and he reminds us all of what once was good, and what could be again.”
Superman believes that unabashed good can conquer evil — because goodness itself is a value worth fighting for.
And that is what Superman is all about.
