Reminiscent of the German novel Kairos by Jenny Erpenbeck - which also features a steamy May/December affair set against the backdrop of German unification. There’s a deep sense of impending and radical change, that heightens the senses and the stakes in this film.
And while it’s definitely paced poorly, there’s a rawness and honesty to the work that pervades.
Not for the feint of heart - but extremely rewarding stuff. Amazing performances in the lead roles as well.
