The seamy and uncomfortable side of "Great" 1950s America portrayed by three of America's greatest icons, directed by one of its greatest directors -- all in glorious CinemaScope.
Some Came Running is a lot. It's a lot of booze. It's a lot of melodrama. It's a lot of criticism of the conformist, upper middle class bourgeois world that we've come to lionize as the height of American society.
And yet how much damage is wrought beneath the surface of these manicured lawns, club dinners and beautiful cars.
Ultimately wherever we go, there we are. These beautiful worlds are no more or less subject to inhumanity, cruelty and human weakness. The bravura ending of this film is the ultimate lesson to David Hirsh - who treats everyone as supporting players in his solo story.
There are always consequences. Even in the most beautiful worlds. Maybe especially then.
