What is wrong with America? Are we racist, militarist right wing psychopaths, ready to round up innocent families and factory workers? Are we Marxist terrorists, focused on impotent, performative acts of violence and hung up on pedantic language and outmoded ideologies?
Or is the truth really something far different? That politics are pretext and violence and inhumanity belong to everyone.
The only heroes in this film are the ones who keep true to their families - found or otherwise. The Christmas Adventurers and the French 76 need their fake war - despite the human lives they ruin.
Perhaps Willa’s clear-eyed understanding of these failings will point to a better future. Her commitment to her family shows she’s already 10 steps ahead of her predecessors.
