Ne Zha 2, 2025 - ★★★★½

The best kung fu, demon hunting, dragon riding, epic you’re gonna see this year, or maybe any year.

This is a major leap forward in blockbuster filmmaking from China. It’s also by far the best animated film released in years, outside of the Spider-Verse films.

Pick any frame of this film - and it looks so much better and has so much more artistic soul than any recent Pixar slop.  It is beautiful, exciting, crammed with detail and cinematic movement. And it remembers to be FOR KIDS - even though it’s exciting enough for adults.

I’m honestly astounded.

Disney/Pixar, Universal, Dreamworks and even Sony - you have been put on note.
