The film’s dream logic and imagery sets it apart. The drama Clement brings to Anne and to Paul is completely fantastical in nature.
Like so many of today’s radicals, Clement is cosplaying his way through life. He desires everything and nothing. His life, his rebellion against his father/country and his relationships with Anne and Paul - are all as performative and meaningless as his acts of violence.
In the end, his legacy - like most violent radicals is one of violence and desolation.
