
Woody’s quietest film, where the ripping of tape or the smashing of candle glass are as impactful as an artillery shell.
Bergman influence abounds, with symbolism both obvious and subtle drawn throughout the production. But this has Woody’s superior sense of timing and pacing (it’s true). Ultimately this could be quite a boring film, were the performances not so over the top amazing.
I wish he had returned to this well more often.



Woody Allen was actually a master of suspense and the slow burn even if he’s thought of as a comedy guy.
