A summer fable of dysfunction and coming into one’s own. Some really sad and loathsome adults to balance Lily Collins’s brilliant performance of Sam.
It’s hard to see her father not anticipating how the hiking trip is going to play out (the audience sure does), but Sam’s reaction is righteous and lets the punishment fit the crime.
Would’ve liked a bit more pathos- but either way this felt appropriate for the script and narrative.
India Donaldson is one to watch.
