
Bergman never fails to show our common humanity. Ultimately a meditation on modernity and its relentless push towards even the most isolated parts of the world.
Understated but makes the point that the little conveniences are a seductive pull from even hundreds of years of tradition. Obviously there is a profound sense of loss amidst all the stark natural beauty. 50 years later, I think Ingmar would have a good handle on the spiritual crisis or vibe-cession so many feel today.
