Falling in Love, 1984 - ★★★½

Some of my favorite actors of all time give great performances in a very OK movie about adultery and what they used to call affairs of the heart.

The almost affair is the most compelling part of the film, aside from the pure 1980s of it all. 

The constant connectivity of cell phones and social media and internet life certainly make emotional melodramas far less realistic and romantic?

Most of my friend’s parents separated or divorced during the mid 1980s - so I’m well aware of the damage these affairs wrought on people’s lives.

Cultural mores have traveled so far, so fast that you barely see romantic comedies anymore, let alone American films that treat adultery with anything less than raw condemnation. 

Fascinating if flawed film.
