Swedish Noir! And Bergman’s first film at that. This owes a lot of its visuals and characterization to Renoir’s La Chienne and Lang’s Scarlett Street but this has just so much more family-centered melodrama and pathos than those far darker films.
Even in this earliest of Bergman’s works, Crisis is visually amazing. Much of the promise of his later work - both visually and thematically can be found.
