
How much pain and suffering in America would be avoided if wounded, humiliated men sought love rather than restored pride? There are layers upon layers upon layers in this Tennessee Williams penned script - but it’s clear where its sympathies lie.
The crumbling, haunted house. The hollowed out, poorly cared for business. The sense that foreigners, or immigrants are stealing from you, are the fears that define modern day America as much as it did the mid-century South.
Sadly it seems that restored pride remains the organizing principle of our polity. And our fate appears to be no different than that of Archie Lee and Baby Doll
