Woody would’ve paced it better - but I suspect ATH will only rise in estimation when people ask “How the hell did we end up here?”
Much like Eddington, another wildly misunderstood film - many of the negative takes are about the film’s politics - or lack thereof.
I think this film was interested in far loftier issues. In taking the form of a “cancelled” director (the fonts, the cinematography, the pretentious intellectuals) to show us just how deeply lost we all are.
Only Frederick - who devotes his life to service, to music, to cooking and to loving his wife is worthy of his humanity. Everyone else has sacrificed - literally everything - for manon. These characters pretend god is dead, but must live with his judgment.
Kinda loved this - even with the pacing issues.
This is a hot take - I liked it a lot (a lot) better than Challengers. Give me evil, posturing intellectuals over whiny Zendaya and her obviously gay husband issues.
